Sustainable Development

CobaltNiche has been awarded a 2006 grant from Sustainability Victoria to extend an existing design brief to include environmental considerations. The purpose of the grant is to integrate DfE (design for Environment) strategies into a current development project CobaltNiche is undertaking.

Warwick Brown, CobaltNiche’s Design Director attended and spoke at an industry event announcing the funding awards. According to Warwick the funding will enable CobaltNiche to “consider the environmental impact of the product where otherwise this would not have been included as a critical issue by the client”.
The funding will be used on a single-use medical product being developed for an overseas-based client.

CobaltNiche is committed to reducing the environmental impact of the products we develop for our clients. Often this objective benefits the commercial targets of the client, as well as our world. Broadly, we apply these DfE principals not just 'green' products, but to every project we undertake:
- Reduce the amount of materials used within a product
- Reduce number of parts and variety of materials
- Design for rapid assembly and dis-assembly (to aid recycling)
- Where possible, avoid use of non-renewable, hazardous or polluting materials or processes
