Premier’s Awards Shortlisting

14 July 2006

Two CobaltNiche designs have been shortlisted for this year’s Premier's Design Award.
The Awards recognise design excellence and innovation of national or international standard and focus on Victoria as the State of Design. CobaltNiche submitted 3 products in this year’s programme, and had two of these shortlisted:

- Varian ICP OES is shortlisted for the Product Design Prize. It is a high end analysis instrument and the latest platform designed by CobaltNiche for Varian Australia.
- The Shower Watch an innovative and beautifully shaped timer designed to help users limit the time spent under the shower. It is shortlisted for the inaugural City of Melbourne Sustainability Design Award.

According to Steve Martinuzzo, CobaltNiche’s Managing Director, “its refreshing to see this year’s awards, conducted by lab.3000, be structured so that product design is judged within its own category and for there to be a focus on professional and commercial products”.

In addition to the two projects above, Steve Kelliher Swinburne University graduate and now CobaltNiche Design Engineer has also won a shortlisting for the Student Design Prize for his Microdyn Pathogen Lab. The product is "remarkably well resolved and would have done very well in the Professional category. We congratulate Steve on his achievement" said Steve Martinuzzo.

Shortlisted and winning entries will be exhibited at the Melbourne Museum from October - December 2006 to coincide with this year’s State of Design Festival.
