Developed by CobaltNiche, the PowerCoil product case for Bordo International is an innovative, modular packaging system for thread repair kits.
The challenge was to design a packaging system which could cater for a huge range of kit sizes with a minimum number of packaging variations. The solution was a series of specially designed flexible tool holders that clip into 3 outer boxes. The holders incorporate an expanding ‘hammock’ feature which allows each holder to adapt to suit a range of tool sizes. The outer cases feature impact resistant mouldings. Internal details such as the flexible holders assist user access and organise the precision tool sets.

Within a highly competitive market, kits can be subject to a common perception amongst consumers ‘that all brands are of similar quality’. To address this, CobaltNiche have developed the packaging to promote the brand, improve ease of use, and provide ongoing benefits to differentiate the product.  Unlike other traditional packaging, which has a relatively short lifespan, the PowerCoil case is designed to remain an integral part of the product, providing a convenient and durable ‘tool box’ throughout the life of the set. This has assisted Bordo International’s push to break into new international markets, including the recent successful launch of the product in the US.

The PowerCoil Case range have been entered into the upcoming 2007 Australian Packaging Awards.
