Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) required a special ‘high-performance’ solution for its premium model range.
Working with Siemens-VDO and ProDrive, CobaltNiche engineered the turbo gauge pod to look the part for performance-orientated drivers whilst meeting all of the necessary mechanical and safety requirements.
An Expression of Performance
In addition to its primary function of providing turbo boost pressure and oil temperature information to the driver, the pod is designed to strongly express the car’s high-performance status, and visually differentiate the FPV’s interior from standard Ford models.
As an OEM part the gauge pod had to integrate seamlessly into the interior with a high quality finish and appearance. It also had to satisfy stringent crash impact testing standards and ergonomic visibility requirements.
Engineered for production
CobaltNiche paid particular attention to logistics and production engineering of the gauge pod. For example, the module consists of two OEM gauges housed within individual ‘can’ enclosures mounted into a common moulding. This facilitates the flexibility to customise gauge types to suit individual vehicle requirements.
CobaltNiche was responsible for liaising with Ford’s design group and the mechanical design and engineering of the entire casing assembly.
